Therapy Process

HOW DO YOU START THERAPY?

The counselling process begins with completing 2 intake forms and then you telling Ezreena what brings you to therapy. She will ask questions to get a deeper understanding of what is going on for you. 

Ezreena will help to identify the main topics of distress and she will screen for any traumatic incidents and prepare you for trauma therapy, which is different from traditional talk therapy. She will then explain her approach to you. 

On the second session, Ezreena will run an energetic body process (if you choose), called the BARS,  which allows your brain and body to discharge accumulated stress. This is highly therapeutic and prepares you for the next stage of counselling.  

At the beginning of each session Ezreena will ask you for a brief update since the last appointment (signs of distress or progress), and then, using specific methods designed to get you feeling better and functioning better, you will focus on a topic and process it until it feels resolved.

A natural “by-product” of therapeutic counselling and energy healing body work, is a reduction in negative symptoms which brought you to counselling (such as anxiety, stress & depression).

UNCONSCIOUS RESISTANCE is when your psychological system tries to protect you from pain: it will give you reasons for not going to therapy, and yet, therapy is what will help you to heal that pain! It may try to convince you that you are “feeling better'” or that you “don’t need therapy” or that the “therapy isn’t working”; this is a double-edged sword: your psyche is protecting you AND hindering you!

FREQUENCY OF SESSIONS

Ezreena recommends one, 90 minute session per week for the first 6 to 10 weeks, and then re-evaluate. 

The longer sessions allow for clients to process more information in the first 6 weeks – which often jumpstarts clients feeling and functioning better….. sooner.

 

EZREENA’S UNIQUE APPROACH

After your intake session, Ezreena will explain her approach and use various tools to help you process and discharge upsetting experiences, and each tool is designed to get you working deeper, toward your core issues. 

When the core issues shift – your world will change!

Ezreena helps to identify any traumatic incidents that you may have experienced, witnessed or overheard. Once identified, you will process the thoughts, feelings and any body sensations that have been associated with those incidents, until the energy is released. When the energy is discharged – the symptoms lessen and you will naturally feel better and function better. You will resolve the experience, not simply manage the symptoms caused by the experience. 

INDIVIDUAL / COUPLES SESSIONS

Most sessions are one-on-one for individuals.

When Ezreena provides counselling for couples, she will meet with both clients together to get an idea of the problem(s) and then she recommends that each person attend individual counselling to work on their own stuff before bringing them back together again.  This approach reduces the triggers so when the clients come back as a couple they can hear each other and respond, rather than react. 

Trauma therapy is most effective when addressed one-on-one, not as a couple or a group. Using anxiety, stress, and depression counselling tools first, will reduce one’s reactiveness, which improves relationships.

If couples decline individual counselling and prefer sessions together, Ezreena will help identify the issues and illuminate where the break-down is, then assist the couple in communicating more effectively (articulate, listen, respond and ask clarifying questions rather than assume).

CLIENT COMMITMENT

The clients who are ready to commit to the therapy process, progress the most!

They schedule regular weekly sessions, they show up on time, they engage in the process that is designed for them to resolve their issues (not manage the symptoms), and they are open and honest with the therapist.

When suppressed material is stimulated it will bubble up into the conscious awareness and will sometimes present as “irritability”. This is a sign that something is passing through the awareness threshold…….. ready to be addressed. Therapy helps process what is coming up into your awareness.
