Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy CBT flow chart

WHAT IS CBT?

CBT therapy is a very practical and effective approach that helps to illuminate patterns of thinking and behaviour which lead to disturbing emotional responses.

CBT examines the internal dialogue of a client to identify thoughts (beliefs, assumptions, conclusions), that create a particular feeling which then lead to a behaviour, which in turn reinforces the original thought; this cycle perpetuates the issue and/or pattern.

An event itself is not disturbing until we put meaning (thought/belief) to the event.

Simply put, Cognitive Behavioural technique has these steps:

  • we "catch" the negative thought
  • we "challenge" the negative thought
  • we "change" the negative thought to a more beneficial thought
  • we "notice" the change in emotion
  • we "create" a new response / behaviour

A more beneficial thought creates a more positive emotion - which will in turn influence a change in  behaviour

These tools can be applied anywhere at any time. When we release the negative thoughts we can choose new ones. It is like new "programming"

**{One young man believed he was stupid. When I ran a CBT technique...... the emotion that had accumulated from years of believing he was stupid, had surfaced.

After purging the sorrow he was then able to see the ways in which he was smart!

That evening he texted me "this is the first time I can remember going to bed at night and my brain didn't say "I am stupid".  (The thought had cleared with the emotional discharge!)

3 months later he reported that the thought didn't t even enter his mind now. The thought that "I am smart" has replaced it!}**

CBT Therapy is one of the most important counselling techniques to discharge pain and to help shift our perspective. CBT is effective in many types of therapy: Social Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Depression and Trauma/PTSD

WHAT DOES A CBT THERAPY SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Using CBT Therapy, Ezreena will help identify any distorted beliefs or erroneous conclusions that you have made about yourself or others or the world and help to rework them.

Positive affirmations are great, however, they can be difficult to maintain if the negative belief is "charged" with emotional energy.

Ezreena has you "discharge" the energy around the negative belief and then she helps to install & reinforce a new positive belief. There is tremendous relief in this process.

This tool is very effective and can be incorporated in any session. Some clients use a full 1.5 hour session using CBT method. It's incredible!
